Greetings and welcome to my website. I am Siwen Wang, and I am excited to share with you a glimpse into my career journey thus far.
My journey began with a profound interest in understanding the science underlying various biological phenomena and biomedical challenges. This led me to embark on my academic journey in Life Sciences at China Agricultural University. Upon completing my undergraduate studies, I pursued advanced research training in biochemistry, molecular biology, and bioinformatics, culminating in the attainment of my PhD from Purdue University. While considering my next career move, I stumbled upon the niche of biomedical visualization, which pleasantly surprised me. This discovery was particularly exciting because, alongside biomedical research, artistic expression has always been a significant source of joy in my life. The opportunity to seamlessly blend science and art motivated me to join the Biomedical Visualization (BVIS) program at University of Illinois at Chicago.
The training I received at BVIS was both exceptional and enlightening. Not only did I gain systematic proficiency in skills such as interactive application development, illustration, graphic design, and animation, but I also acquired knowledge in visual storytelling and learning theories. Reflecting on my career identity, I find it challenging to categorize myself simply as an illustrator, graphic designer, or serious game and XR developer. My overarching objective is to facilitate learning and visually communicate the biomedical world as I envision it. My ultimate aspiration is to craft enriching learning experiences for my audience using visual tools, whether through interactive applications, still images, or animations. I have come to realize that I am a visual learning experience designer in the biomedical field. Furthermore, with a desire to underpin my visual design with solid theory, I am currently pursuing a Master Track Certificate in Instructional Design from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Looking ahead, I am eager to leverage my expertise in scientific research, artistic creation, and instructional design to curate a distinctive and fulfilling experience for my audience as they delve into the realm of biomedicine.
